I served my time as an engineering apprentice at Swan, Hunter & Wigham
Richardson Ltd. Neptune Engine Works, Walker-on-Tyne, building Doxford marine diesel engines 1954/1959, finishing in the drawing office.
Joined Port Line as a Junior Engineer serving on refrigerated cargo passenger ships trading between the UK, Australia and New Zealand, with occasional 'excursions' to the USA, South Africa and Japan. Rose to the rank of Senior Second Engineer after getting my Chief Engineer's Motor certificate.
Left Port Line in 1966 and joined Mobil Tankers as Third
Engineer on the Mobil Enterprise in order to get my steam time in
Before sitting and passing my Combined Steam & Motor Chief Engineer's
certificate.
Left the Merchany Navy in 1968 and joined a firm of Consulting Marine
Engineers & Ship Surveyors in their Grimsby office where I stayed for
About 10 years before moving to their head office in Hull, becoming a
director and eventually running the business. Retired 4 years ago and now enjoy
playing a little golf (badly) and spending time with my grandsons.
